Despite its critical importance of connecting users to the Internet, the domain name server, or DNS, exists in relative anonymity and is widely underutilized by most organizations.
For large enterprises and businesses to get the most out of their DNS, the prevailing wisdom is to outsource the DNS to a provider that can supply DNS-based security, traffic management, and expert support.
But according to a new research report by UBM Tech, 78% of companies are managing their own DNS, and in doing so, missing out on opportunities.
Additional findings from the study:
- Adoption of managed DNS service providers is low among businesses with a critical web presence
- Security is the most influential feature when evaluating outsourced DNS vs. in-house
- More education is needed around the benefits of DNS traffic management
