When you understand the power of connection, you see opportunities others don’t. For example, someone envisioned that a plain apartment could become a hotel suite and created a brand-new industry that’s revolutionized travel.

Neustar’s purpose is to drive the connected world forward. To create connected experiences that grow and guard your business. To accomplish this, we’re leading the way in the emerging field of Connection Science, the study of connecting people, places, and things, with the greatest relevance and the highest degree of security.

Connection Science is an interdisciplinary field that combines:

  • Data Science. To collect and correlate data using the power of analytics and statistics.
  • Computer Science. To corroborate and connect that data, Connection Science uses the tools of addressing and mapping (IPs, numbers, devices, etc.) of communications networking and the multidimensional authentication of cryptography and network security.

The gist? Connection Science enables Neustar to not only understand how a person is connected to a place or thing, but also to authenticate that connection and distill the data into a single profile.

As the Internet of Things (IOT) continues to grow—and when you think about it, it really involves people, places, and things—Connection Science will help ensure the world works as it should.

Connection Science is built on the three A’s.

The three pillars of Connection Science are addressing, authentication, and analytics. Let’s take a look at each.

To understand connection, you must understand addressing—the real-time mapping of online and offline interactions. Neustar runs core addressing infrastructure for the connected world. We manage complex, large-scale registries and directories, which correlate, corroborate, and connect billions of addresses in real-time. For instance, we handle 10 percent of all global DNS traffic and 99 percent of all U.S. mobile, fixed, and VoIP calls and text messages.

If you don’t get identity right, everything else will be wrong. So it’s important to authenticate, in every single transaction, who or what is really on the other end of the line—whether it’s a human interacting with a machine or two machines connecting.

That’s why Neustar has created OneID, which uses fractional identifiers that are both fresh and multi-sourced. It connects both past and present identifiers, including name, address, phone number, email addresses, cookies, and mobile device IDs to provide complete and accurate consumer profiles that take situation-specific privacy concerns into consideration. OneID resolves disparate consumer identifiers to ensure that Neustar can recognize them collectively as a single consumer across devices.

As Albert Einstein said, “Not everything that can be counted counts and not everything that counts can be counted.” To mine insights you can act on to create connected experiences, we use machine learning, predictive analytics, data visualization, and more. Neustar analyzes data across people, places, and things, bringing it into focus to improve decision-making.

The Key: Understanding Identity

What it all boils down to is that having data is not the same thing as understanding identity. In order to create a truly connected experience, organizations must be able to recognize people, places, and things. It’s the key to creating connected experiences that keep customers coming back.
