Rich Communication Suite

Providing an enriched communication experience

Neustar shares the Rich Communication Suite (RCS) vision of providing an enriched communication experience to subscribers. Neustar provides services and products that both enable and extend the RCS experience and applications.

RCS is an initiative led by the Global System Mobile Association (GSMA) with the support of a wide range of operators and vendors. It aims to provide an enhanced communication experience to subscribers through a suite of inter-operable and interconnected services and applications.

The RCS vision is for subscribers to have richer interactions, for example subscribers will see their friends’ latest status in their address book, have a threaded messaging conversation with them including Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia Messaging Services (MMS), Instant Messaging (IM), pictures, and other media, and be able to share video in real time whilst making a phone call.

Built on a number of key services, the RCS experience includes:

Enhanced Phone Book

Subscribers will see the availability, status pictures, and status updates for friends. They will also be able to back up and store their contacts on-line.

Enhanced Messaging

Subscribers will have all their messages, including SMS, MMS, and IM integrated together. Using instant messaging they will be able to share text, pictures, media, and files.

Enriched Call

Subscribers can easily add media to calls, such as sharing video as part of an existing voice call.

Interconnection

These services will be connected and available across different operators, meaning that subscribers can communicate with their friends irrespective of network.

Neustar’s RCS enablers include:

  • Instant Messaging Service Center (IMSC) which provides the enhanced messaging capability
  • Presence Server Platform enabling the Enhanced Phone Book

Neustar complementary products that extend the RCS experience and drive adoption of RCS services include:

  • Internet Social Networking and other communities
  • Enhanced Phone Book and Messaging to non-RCS capable handsets
