Router DNS Change

If you have a router on your network, we recommend that you modify your DNS settings there. In this way, you typically only have to make one change, as opposed to making a change to each computer on your network.

View Router Change Instructions

Login to your router

To log in and configure your router, you open it up in your web browser. If you don't know the IP address for your router, don't worry, it is typically one of the following:

http://192.168.0.1
http://192.168.1.1
http://192.168.10.1

If you have forgotten your router's username and/or password, the most common username is "admin" and the password is either blank, "admin", or "password". If none of those work, you can often reset the password to the manufacturer default by pressing a button on the router itself, or in some cases access without a password if you try to access your router quickly after you've cycled the power to it.
Find the DNS server settings

Look for "DNS" next to a field which allows two or three sets of numbers (these fields may be empty). It might look like this:
Put in the DNS Advantage server addresses as your DNS server settings and save/apply

Please write down your current settings before you entering the DNS Advantage addresses, just in case.

Computer DNS Change

While not harmful, modifying DNS settings of individual computers on a corporate network may not always work. Please contact us if you need instructions on how to implement on a corporate network.

Instructions for Windows XP

Select Control Panel from the Start menu.
Click Network Connections from the Control Panel choices.
Right click on your connection from the Network Connections window and click Properties.
Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties.
Click the radio button Use the following DNS server addresses and type in DNS Advantage addresses in the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server fields.

Please write down your current DNS settings before switching to DNS Advantage, in case you want to return to your old settings for any reason.

Preferred DNS server address for DNS Advantage is:
156.154.70.1

Alternate DNS server address for DNS Advantage is:
156.154.71.1

Instructions for Windows Vista

Click the Start Orb, then select Control Panel.
Click on View network status and tasks.
Click on View Status.
Click the Properties button.
Vista may ask for your permission to make changes. If so, click the Continue button.
Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4), then click the Properties button.
Click the radio button. Use the following DNS server addresses and type in DNS Advantage addresses in the Preferred DNS server and Alternate DNS server fields.

Please write down your current DNS settings before switching to DNS Advantage, in case you want to return to your old settings for any reason.
