While an oversimplification, these three steps describe the birth of the phone system, the Internet, and countless other markets. In each case, a small group developed a single idea into a technology, and the technologies spawned whole new industries. At the core of this process are thought leaders who not only talk about what could happen and how things could work, but also about the standards required to make the vision a reality.
The Number Portability database – a core offering of Neustar – was born from such thought leadership, and has become a key contributor to the development of robust competitive carrier and wireless carrier markets in North America. Today,
Neustar’s Advanced Services group continues that legacy under the direction of Chief Technology Officer Eric Burger .
Advanced Services is deeply involved with standards organizations in the mobile, fixed line, and internet arenas. Our team of researchers leads standards development in the subjects of internet routing, security, telecommunications, mobile networks, identity, and many others.
When a more practical understanding is required, the Advanced Services Development Team demonstrates the meeting of theory and application. This development team, led by John Pope, develops customized systems, prototypes, and proofs of concept to drive understanding of the “backstory” – and their efforts have produced such flagship products as the NTS, WMRS, and SIP-IX.
Advanced Services currently leads or is otherwise involved with many standards development organizations (SDOs). In general, the Advanced Services team focuses on areas of Internet Security, Identity, Privacy, Internet Routing, Mobile Communications, Voice over IP (VoIP), and Smart Grid technologies.
